Terms of use
These are the rules for using Studytutor. We've kept them short and plain. If you're a young person and anything here is unclear, ask a parent or an adult you trust, or ask us.

Who we are
Studytutor is run by Polylabs Research, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17530882, registered office 82A James Carter Road, IP287DE. Contact: contact@studytutor.co.uk.
The beta
- Studytutor is a small, free beta. You can use it only if we've approved you, and we can say no.
- It's for pupils in England and Wales, and for their parents and carers. School years follow England and Wales's rules.
- For now, students joining from the waiting list must be 13 or over. A child under 13 can use Studytutor only with a parent or carer's OK.
- The beta may change, or stop. If it's going to stop, we'll tell you first where we can, so you can ask for a copy of your things.
The tutor is an AI
Your tutor is an AI, not a person. It can get things wrong, including facts, working and marks. Don't rely on what it says without checking: check anything important with your teacher or your textbook.
- Marks and feedback are practice. They aren't real grades or predictions.
- Studytutor helps you revise. It doesn't replace your teachers.
Your work is your own
- Don't hand in AI-written work as your own. The tutor is there to help you learn, not to do your homework or coursework.
- Your school and your exam board have rules about using AI. Follow them.
Using Studytutor well
- Only send photos of your work, never of yourself or anyone else.
- Don't put personal details in chats: your full name, address, school, phone number or passwords.
- Don't put health details in your notes for the tutor.
- Don't try to make the tutor produce harmful, sexual, hateful or dangerous content, or to get round its safety rules. Anthropic's Usage Policy applies to everyone who uses Studytutor.
- Your account is just for you. Don't share it. Keep your email account, Google account and sign-in codes private; use two-step verification on your accounts where available.
Teachers who are parents
You're welcome to join as a parent and use the tutor yourself. Don't enter pupils' names or upload their work. Studytutor isn't set up for schools yet.
Limits
- Each person has a daily limit on how much they can use the tutor. When you reach it, the tutor stops until midnight (UK time).
- The tutor writes one reply at a time for each person, and a single message can be up to 20,000 characters (send longer text in parts).
- In the beta, you can start up to 30 new chats a day. You can carry on in chats you've already started.
- The beta also has a monthly allowance. If it runs out, the tutor stops for the beta until the 1st of the next month.
Pausing or closing accounts
- We can pause or close an account: for example if these rules are broken, if lots of refused messages suggest misuse, to keep a child safe, or if the beta changes.
- That's always a person's decision, never automatic. You'll see a screen saying your account is paused. Your marks and progress are kept safe while it's paused.
- For a young person, a parent or carer can ask us to review it.
- You can close your account at any time: email contact@studytutor.co.uk. You can delete any chat yourself.
Your content
What you write and upload stays yours. We use it only to give you the tutoring, as our privacy notice explains. Anthropic, which makes the AI, isn't allowed to train its models on it.
Our responsibility
We provide Studytutor free, as it is. We work to keep it available and helpful, but we can't promise it will always be available, or always be right. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit, or your rights under consumer law.
Children's privacy
We comply with UK data protection law for children, including the ICO's Children's Code (the Age Appropriate Design Code). See our privacy notice, and the versions for young people, under-13s and parents.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update this page and its date, and everyone sees the Before you start screen again in the app, with a link here.
